The LHS track team has not lost their winning streak yet. On March 11, the Lady Lion track team competed in the National Indoor Track & Field Championships in New York City. The girls were second runner up in the nation after competing in the 4×800 relay. The runners are Angelle Primeaux, junior, Gentry Jacquet, senior, Taylor Stansbury, sophomore, and Sydney Minor, junior. These girls are the first female athletes from LHS to ever win a medal in the National Championships. The team also placed 36th in the nation in the Distance Medley Relay. Coach Baillargeon hopes to attend championships next year with a lot more runners, and he is making plans to win too.
On March 31, the Lady Lions attended the Tabasco Relays in New Iberia. Maureen Lee, junior, won the 100 and 200 meter dash, Mikaela Vanek, senior, won the 300 meter hurdles, and Myjha Bush, junior, won the shot put. The team also won two relays. The 4 by 100 relay, the team was Maureen Lee, Jordan Lee, Gabbie Gary, and Alexas Bender. The 4 by 200 relay, the team was Maureen Lee, Jordan Lee, Mikaela Vanek, and Alexas Bender.
On April 1, the track team broke records at the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. Gentry Jacquet, Taylor Stansbury, Angelle Primeaux, and Sydney Minor ran in the 4 by 800 relay and set a new school and state record with 9 minutes and 22 seconds. In the discus category, Hunter Merry placed 7th with a throw of 170 feet.
